As a Scottish registered charity, we seek to ensure that, through our work, children and young people from Scotland's Minority Ethnic communities who are victims of any form of abuse have access to the services they require and that these services are sensitive to their cultural and religious needs.
A crucial part of this approach is the way we also explore how cultural traditions and practices can influence an individual's perception of child abuse whilst examining such topics as honour, shame, family structure, generation gap and fear of external obstacles to reporting abuse. Other issues include language difficulties, lack of knowledge (law and services), isolation, fear of the unknown, racism and lack of resources.
We also aim to participate in Government decision-making processes, (including new legislation, & review of existing policies), and that we are seen as advisors of culturally sensitive child protection issues whilst providing effective prevention strategies including education and training.
As an Enrolled Intermediary Organisation with CRBS we continue to be committed to our successful Scottish wide Faith Communities Disclosure project, a significant multi-partnership child protection initiative with some 40 organisations presently participating. This unique initiative has no precedent in the United Kingdom.
Roshni can never hope to end child abuse by itself this is why we set out to involve everybody and often work in partnership, because safeguarding our children and young people is everyone's responsibility.
