This is a page about Roshni
Welcome to roshni. We are a registered children’s charity based in Glasgow city centre.roshni was registered in 2002 by Ali Khan who recognised that mainstream organisations weren’t doing enough to address cultural differences when safeguarding children.
Our website is a vision of the future - why we are different from other organisations, & the impact we would like to have on society.
How We Help
* We have access into 3rd party organisations and places of worship to ensure there is a child protection framework in operation.
* Our principal objective is to safeguard children by raising awareness.
CRBS - Central Registered Body in Scotland
* As a Registered Intermediary Body with CRBS we assist organisations and individuals working with children to apply for Enhanced Disclosure checks.
* New partnerships formed with organisations mean that standards of child protection are updated and implemented within public spaces. At Roshni we want to increase cultural awareness, enabling all children to live in safe, happy environments.
Children and young people
Roshni have launched awareness sessions for children and young people in schools, youth clubs, and summer camps. Through these we will break the silence. These sessions help young people to identify and report abuse.
The Community
* All adults have a duty to prevent child abuse. Community level awareness enables adults to feel confident in talking about abuse in their local area.
* At Roshni we use communication channels such as posters, flyers, the internet, print media and the local radio stations to send out our message.
Train with Roshni
* Professionals working with children have a key responsibility in maintaining their safety.
* Training sessions for child protection organisations are available through Roshni to increase awareness of cultural sensitivities.
Watch this space
* roshni aim to participate in Government decision-making processes, (including new legislation, & review of existing policies) and to be seen as advisors of culturally sensitive child protection issues.
* Invited to speak at national seminars on subjects relating to child abuse and neglect within minority ethnic communities.
