The Tackling Forced Marriage (TFM) initiative, a project by Roshni, aims to raise the awareness of and challenge, the practice of forced marriages within Minority Ethnic communities across Scotland.
We will work towards eliminating forced marriage in Scotland by challenging the practice before it takes place, through working with communities, faith groups and victims to overcome the culture of acceptance or of denial. In doing so, we aim to dispel myths and stereotypes in relation to forced marriages within minority ethnic communities.
Supported by the Forced Marriage Unit, the Tackling Forced Marriage (TFM) initiative aims to ensure that all victims of forced marriage receive effective, appropriate, culturally and faith sensitive support from all relevant Scottish agencies. We will support improvement in services, which in turn will improve the lives and enhance the health and well-being of members of Scotland’s Minority Ethnic community.
To achieve this, TFM initiative will:
- Deliver a programme of specialised awareness raising events across Scotland.
- Deliver a series of culturally-sensitive training seminars to frontline staff
- Increase the knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation.
- Promote the TFM in Scotland programme online and throughout Scotland’s ethnic media.
