Volunteer

Why Volunteer?

All sorts of people volunteer for many different reasons, but one thing that unites them all is that they find it challenging, rewarding and varied.

Volunteering gives you a chance to make a difference to others and to your community. Also, many volunteers find that their work increases their confidence, teaches them new skills and gives a boost to their education and employment prospects. With so many different volunteering opportunities on offer here at roshni, there’s bound to be something to suit you.

By volunteering with us you?ll be playing an active part in improving the lives of many children, young people and indeed families, whilst potentially influencing the development of local policies and services. You will also:

  • Meet new people – for many people, the best thing about volunteering for the roshni is getting to meet a wide range of people and make new friends. There is a real team spirit at roshni and we provide a supportive environment to make sure that you get the most out of your time with us.
  • Fit volunteering in with the rest of your life – some roles are more flexible than others. We?ll do our best to find a role for you that fits in with your interests, and we?ll be as flexible as possible in enabling you to volunteer at the times that suit you best. Many of our trustees, for example, fit their volunteering around full time jobs.

You won’t be out of pocket:  we will cover any travel costs you have to pay along with any other reasonable out of pocket expenses.

Isn’t it time you gave yourself a new challenge?

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES AT roshni

Love the Web?

Want to be part of an exciting new project? Our new website is aimed at raising awareness within the wider minority ethnic community across Scotland of the issues surrounding child abuse and the reporting of such incidents. We’re looking for committed and enthusiastic people to help us make the new website the best resource of it kind on the web. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about how websites function and to make sure that the site meets the needs of the people who will use it. We need your help to decide what needs to be on it and how it should work. You will be invited to take part in an exclusive online community via the many social networking sites, such as BEBO, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, etc to discuss and debate abuse issues which in turn may directly shape the content and functionality of the website. Once on-line we’ll ask you to support us in making sure it does what we want it to do through testing, creating content and providing ongoing feedback on its’ progress. This is a virtual volunteering role but there will be opportunities to take part in offline meetings and groups as the project progresses.

Volunteer Website Update

roshni has a new website, however it needs to be updated at least on a monthly basis and we would really like the specific pages to look lively and interesting to encourage people to get involved and to look at our site. This opportunity can be home based if desired, although initial training will have to be carried out at the charity?s HQ which is based in Glasgow. Both the fundraising and volunteer sections are the areas which need updating the most and you will be supplied with the relevant text, photographs and downloads for you to update on the website. We need your creative skills to make the updates look visually appealing.

Volunteer Facilitator (in schools and with young people)

As a facilitator you will be volunteering within our outreach team and helping to prepare and deliver to training/workshops for groups of young people within designated schools. This is an exciting opportunity to explore the myths and stigma that can sometimes be attached to a multi cultural community. Your active participation will inspire and encourage young people to understand the issues surrounding child abuse thus delivering a positive contribution to society.
